On January 4, 2025, Mr. Thomas Mylor White, peacefully passed away at Tidal Health in Salisbury after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was 79.
Mr. White was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 15, 1945, to the late Mylor Earnest “Jim” and Mary Ann Perry White.
Growing up Tom attended St. James Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1963.
He started his career as a mechanic working for a Chevrolet dealership in Michigan, and was recruited to GM corporate because of his skills as a mechanic. He worked as a manufacturing engineer for 30 years in several different GM divisions, including Fisher Body, GM Truck and Bus, and was one of the original 100 employees that launched the Saturn Division. After Saturn was dissolved, he was moved back to the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, and became part of the manufacturing release team, reviewing the new models being manufactured to ensure that the models were ready to ship. Tom was active in a number of automotive enthusiast related groups, and participated in events spotlighting primarily the Pontiac label such as the Pontiac Nationals, where he was an official for several years. Many of these events involved his son, Chris, and cars they built together.
Tom was also member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge #241 in Michigan, was a 32nd degree Mason, and participated in their community support efforts.
Tom was a history buff and enjoyed visiting historical sites, such as Civil War battlegrounds, and Gettysburg was a favorite site.
Tom was a hobby machinist and owned a Jet mill and lathe to produce useful parts for home use. He also enjoyed competition shooting and reloading ammunition.
He loved animals and would often feed the local wildlife, deer, squirrels, and the sea birds on Delaware Bay.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Linda (Bennett) White and survived by their son, Christopher White, his wife Nikki and their children, Carter and Amelia White. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ringelstein, her husband Joseph, and their children, Nicholas, Mariel (Ringelstein) Caringella and her husband Rocco, and their child, Marzia Caringella, and Nathan. He is also survived by 5 of his 8 brothers; Robert, Michael, Greg, Steven and John White.
The family will receive visitors at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, from 11AM to 1PM on Saturday, January 18th, with a funeral service starting at 1PM.
Burial is Slaughter Neck Cemetery.
