Sybil E. Burkett
"Sue"
Age 91, of Milford, passed away on July 25, 2012.
Born and raised in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Verna and Coyd Elledge. She came to Milford in 1949 as the bride of the late Henry W. Burkett.
Sue was a charter member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Milford, where she was a member of the women's group. Sue also enjoyed community activities for many years, being actively involved in the Milford New Century Club, AARP, Shawnee Home Economics Club, and the Milford Senior Center.
Sue was very interested in the arts, especially oil painting. Her family proudly and lovingly displays her paintings in their homes.
Sue is survived by two sons, Paul W. Burkett and his wife Linda of LaGrange, GA, and John A. Burkett of New Bern, NC; four grandchildren, Matt and his wife Debbie of Milford, Gram and his wife Kacy of Salisbury, MD, Caitlin of Newark, and Taylor of Milford; four great-grandchildren; Andrew, Samuel, Ella and Avery; the oldest of five children, Sue is also survived by her sister, Frances Mitchell of South Carolina; her niece, Christy Carrico of North Carolina, whom she loved dearly; and her former daughter-in-law, Nancy Burkett of Milford, who looked after her for many years and whom she considered her daughter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave, Milford.
Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave, Milford, DE, 19963 or to Bayhealth Foundation, 640 S. State St, Dover, DE, 19901.
