Sally L. Culp

Of Dover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at home after an arduous battle against multiple Myeloma. She was 69.

Sally was born on September 20, 1941 in Stamford, CT, the daughter of Sophia (Mazik) Kenefic and the late Robert E. Kenefic.

Mrs. Culp owned Bill the Bakers in Dover while attending college to earn her nursing degree. She worked at Milford Memorial Hospital in various positions including that of the Head Nurse of the Emergency Room. She retired from nursing in 2007.

She enlisted with the Delaware Army National Guard 116th MASH in 1981. Sally served in numerous leadership positions including Chief Nurse of the 59th Medical Detachment. She went on many missions including a humanitarian mission in the Dominican Republic. She retired honorably from the National Guard with the rank of Lt. Col. in 2001.

In addition to her military career, Mrs. Culp also volunteered with the Red Cross and assisted in disaster areas providing nursing care to those impacted by severe flooding. She also volunteered at various youth camps to render nursing care to children.

After her retirement, she devoted her time to family, travel and art. Sally served as the Sussex County Regional Director of the Delaware Watercolor Society and won numerous awards for her artwork. Her spirit of adventure lead her to China, Italy and the Caribbean during her final years.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; William and Sandra Culp of Severn, MD; a daughter and son-in-law; Michele and Robert Hall of Ocean View; her mother, Sophie Kenefic of Dover; a sister, Marie Deaton of Dover and three grandchildren; Brad Haynes, Mikaela Culp and Seraphina Culp.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial with Military Honors will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in memory of Sally Culp to International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Dr, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA, 91607.
