On Wednesday, February 19th, Ryan Robert Hurlburt, tragically passed away at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, after battling complications from the flu. He was 41.
Ryan was born in Fort Worth, TX at Carswell Airforce Base on December 7, 1983, to Paul and Carissa (Herfkens) Hurlburt.
He graduated from Azle Highschool in 2003.
Ryan joined the Army and honorably served our country from 2003 to 2007, completing more than fifty OIF III combat missions and earning Cavalry Combat Spurs, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal as well as an Army Presidential Unit Citation.
He enjoyed music, camping, hiking, being outdoors and playing strategic games online as well as with family and friends. Ryan and his family are members of Warrior Community Connect, a local veteran’s organization. He was very proud to have assisted in coaching the 2024 Milford 12U Pop Warner Football team and was looking forward to coaching again this year. He loved his family fiercely and was always willing to go where, and do whatever was asked of him to help those in need.
Ryan is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Connie (Seggel) Hurlburt, and his children, Silas Gabriel Hurlburt, and Emelia Rose Hurlburt. He is also survived by his parents, Paul Hurlburt and his wife Kim, and Carissa Juroska and her husband Kevin, his brothers, Joshua Hurlburt and Kyle Hurlburt and his partner Kayla and their daughter, Madelynn, and his sisters, Elizabeth Bent and her husband Michael, their children, Alyssa and Maggie, Jennifer Holleman and her husband Bobby and their children; Mason, Madison, and Maddox, and Katherine Admire and her husband Justin and their children; Konner, Kinslee, and Kendall.
A funeral service will be held at Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro on Friday, March 14th at 2PM.
A memorial service will be held at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford on Saturday March 15th at 12PM with visitation starting at 10AM.
A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held in Texas in April.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his children’s College Funds, or, donations can be made in his name to Warrior Community Connect, or Warhorses for Veterans, both of which are veteran’s organizations close to his heart.
