MILFORD - Roy B. Kemp, Jr. passed away at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

Roy, known as "Sonny" in his younger years, was born in Milford on December 15, 1929, the only child of the late Roy B. Kemp, Sr. and Bertha (Viereck) Kemp.

He graduated from Milford High School and furthered his studies as a graduate of both Wesley College and Goldy-Beacom College.

He attained the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge from the Delaware Army National Guard.  He remained active as a member and past treasurer of the Delaware National Guard Retired Officers Association.

Roy was employed by Dentsply International (L.D. Caulk Co) in Milford and retired after 20 plus years of service as the Chief Financial Officer.  He then worked in the Finance Department with the State of Delaware, retiring again after 10 years in his position there.

His youth and adult years were much influenced by the rich history of baseball in the Milford area; from being surrounded by players from the Eastern Shore league at his grandmother's boarding house to playing in high school and on the local town teams in Milford and Frederica.  He coached in the Milford Little League and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports.  Roy was an avid fan of Wesley College athletics.

He was a member of the Masonic Temple Lodge #9 A.F.&A.M. in Milford, the Milford Elks Lodge #2401, and a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Milford.

Roy is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ruth Ann Kemp; his children; Margo Halton and her husband James of Westfield, MA, R.B. Kemp and his wife Jacqueline of Milford, Michael Kemp and his fiancée Linda Emory of Harrington, Ronald Kemp and his fiancée Kathy Sullivan of Vero Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
