Robert H. Erne
FELTON - Robert H. Erne passed away at Hospice of The Chesapeake in Pasadena, Maryland on May 4, 2016. He was 88.
Bob was born in Philadelphia on July 23, 1927 to the late Frank and Helen (Ensslen) Erne.
He graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia in January of 1945 with the Class of 183.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1945 and served his country proudly during World War II leaving with the rank of Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class.
After his discharge, he attended Temple University and graduated in 1950 with a BS degree in education. He then obtained thirty additional credits from the University of Delaware in elementary education.
He taught at Frederica School from 1950-1953 transferring to Felton School in 1953 from where he retired in 1978.
Bob was a runner before it was cool and at age 70, began walking twice a day. He was a popular sight in the Andrew Lake and McGinnis Pond area. He was also an accomplished gardener and an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie (deYoung) Erne; two sons, William and his wife Laura of Reedville, VA, and Wayne and his wife Monica of Newark; and a brother Edward G. Erne of Cape May, NJ.
Services and burial will be held privately at a later date.
