Capt. Orville W. Shockley
Age 83 of Milford, Delaware, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Orville was born on May 26, 1927 in Milton, son of the late Woodrow and Lillian (Webb) Shockley.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country as a naval pilot for 5 years during World War II.
Mr. Shockley owned and operated the O.W. Shockley Insurance Company in Milford for over 50 years, retiring in 2001.
Capt. Shockley loved the outdoors and particularly being on the water, earning his Captain's license and enjoying time out on his boat, the "Judy S", docked at his Ocean View cottage, with family, especially his great granddaughters and his long time first mate Keith Jones. He was also an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens Football team.
Orville was a member of the Milford Moose Lodge # 2316, the Milford Elks Lodge #2401; the Blue Hen VFW Post #6483 in Milford and the American Legion Post #3 of Milford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Shockley in 2009.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jean Judy Shockley; his daughter, Brenda Hudson of Felton; his grandchildren, Christina Mosley and her husband Linwood, Jr. of Smyrna and Andrew Courtney of Dover; his great grandchildren, Faith Farrell of Smyrna and Cassidy and Carlee Courtney of Dover and a nephew; Daniel Shockley and his wife Vicky of Maryland and their daughter, Heather Shockley.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call two hours prior.
Burial will be held in the Milford Community Cemetery on North Walnut Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd, Milford, DE, 19963.
