Ormond H. Hobbs, Jr.
Of Milford, Delaware, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83.
Mr. Hobbs was born on May 7, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Ormond H. and Orie (McLeod) Hobbs.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during World War II.
Mr. Hobbs was employed as a PBX "Teletype" Repairman with Diamond State Telephone, which was later known as Bell Atlantic and now Verizon, retiring after 41 years of service.
He devoted a lot of his spare time applying his special talents to assisting public service groups building ramps for the handicapped and race cars for disabled children and rebuilding teletype communications for the deaf. He was also an avid fisherman and crabber.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Louis Hobbs.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris W. Hobbs, two daughters; Robin Stewart and her husband Dr. Robert Stewart of Farmington, GA and Dr. Debra Hobbs of Lewes; three grandchildren; Kate Stewart, Carey Stewart and Asia Hobbs and special friends, Michael Love and Henry Powell.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call two hours prior.
Burial will be held in the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Avenue United Methodist Church, Parish Purse, 20 N. Church St, Milford, DE, 19963 or to the Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd, Milford, DE, 19963.
