Norman T. Smith, Jr., 88
MILFORD - Norman T. Smith, Jr. passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford.
Norman was born on July 16, 1925 in Wilmington, son of the late Norman T. and Elizabeth G. (Hilyard) Smith.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during World War II.
Mr. Smith was employed for 31 years with Civil Service as a grounds and maintenance superintendent at the Dover Air Force Base, retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed catching a bite to eat and socializing with friends at the West Side Restaurant in Milford and going fishing.
Norman was a member of the American Legion Post #3 in Milford.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Mina J. Smith in 2007.
He is survived by two sons, John W. Smith and his wife Ping of Milford, and Tom Smith and his wife Edie of Lewes; a daughter, Bonnie Carmine and her husband Jeff of Milford; four grandchildren, Lance Carmine and his wife Eva; Christel Hey, Bryan Cohen, and Tom Smith and his wife Megan; ten great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Heather.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113.
Burial with military honors will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Delaware Veterans Home Fund, 100 Delaware Veterans Dr, Milford, DE, 19963 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963.
