Mike Kohut
GREENWOOD - Mike Kohut, formerly of Milford and Felton (Andrews Lake) passed away on May 7, 2014 at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood. He was 88.
Born in Dixonville, Pennsylvania on October 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Andrew Kohut and Helen (Nydashick) Kohut.
Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 1943. During World War II he participated in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign as a Ball Gunner on B-24's receiving a medal with 7 bronze stars. Mike received several other awards and medals throughout his military career. Mike retired as a Master Sergeant. He then continued a Civil Service career at Dover Air Force base in Traffic Management. In 1989 Mike was awarded the (MAC) Military Airlift Command Award for Outstanding Air Force Transportation Civilian Employee. In 1992 Mike was awarded the MTMC Award for Excellence in Traffic Management. He retired in January of 2002 after 33 years of Civil Service.
Mike was an avid racquetball player, participated in local tournaments and won several trophies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Peter and Nick, and two sisters, Marie and Anna.
He is survived by his son, Michael Kohut and wife Jackie of Greenwood; his daughter Karen Kohut of Milford; and his daughter Michelle Lynch and her husband Brian of Bridgeville; his former wife, Lorene Kohut of Smithville, TX; his brother, George Kohut of Richmond, VA; grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be held privately.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Country Rest Home for taking such excellent care of their father while he resided there.
