Margaret "Peggy" J. Essick

Margaret “Peggy” J. Essick, age 87, of Milton, Delaware died peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Peggy was born in Pittsburgh PA on May 11, 1937 to the late Charles O. Miller and the late Margaret E. (Thomas) Miller.

Peggy graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in nursing. As a registered nurse she worked on the floor at several hospitals in PA, MD, and WV. Peggy concluded her career working as an occupational health nurse for the U.S. Silica company in Berkeley Springs, WV.

At retirement she and her husband Neil moved to Milton, DE in 1991, allowing them to be closer to the beach. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Milford, DE. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the classics. When not spending her time reading, she loved to be at the beach, gardening, writing, walking with their dog, Katie.

In her later years, she enjoyed watching movies, following politics, and playing solitaire on her laptop.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Neil D. Essick; and son Charles Mark Essick; three brothers Charles Miller, Robert Miller, Jess Miller; and her sister Olive Anderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Lauren Jenkins of Milton, DE, and her son Matthew Essick of Harper’s Ferry, WV; Her granddaughter Whittney Essick of Frederick, MD; and three nieces, Eugenie Wolf, Debra Jacky, Heidi Yovich, and one nephew, Richard Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of the following organizations, Guiding Eyes for the Blind (guidingeyes.org), Breakthrough T1D (breakthrought1d.org) , or Food Bank of Delaware (fbd.org).

A memorial service will be held at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, at 4PM on Saturday March 29th. Visitation starting at 3PM.
