Leon E. "Rocky" Grodkiewicz
Of Frederica, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover. He was 90.
Leon was born on July 12, 1920 in Bayonne, New Jersey, son of the late Walenty and Felicia (Piragowski) Grodkiewicz.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving his country proudly during World War II.
Mr. Grodkiewicz owned and operated two service stations at separate times over a span of 28 years in Little Heaven and downtown Milford before taking employment as Parts Manager for Kent County Motors in Dover, a position he held for 14 years, retiring in 1985.
He held a special friendship for many years with Dr. Thomas Dyer enjoying lunches out on a regular weekly basis and sharing their mutual interests in cars and mechanics, often times helping Tom out with routine engine maintenance.
Rocky was a member of the Murderkill Lions Club in Frederica, the Masonic Temple Lodge No 9 A.F.&A.M. in Milford and the American Legion Post #3 in Milford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith E. Grodkiewicz in 2000.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Leo H. and Barbara Grodkiewicz of Frederica; a daughter, Patricia G. Miller of Harrington; a sister, Francis Mack of Brighton, Michigan; two grandchildren, Steven Grodkiewicz and his wife Ginger and Michelle Gravatt and her husband Roger and two great grandchildren, Lauren Gravatt and Logan Gravatt.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial will follow in Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963.
