Karen S. Carey-Wilkerson
Of Milford, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She was 60.
Karen was born in Milford on March 21, 1954, the daughter of George V. and Jeannette Messick Carey.
After high school, she furthered her education at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia where she graduated with a B.S. in Education. Karen later received her Master's Degree in the same field from the University of Delaware.
Karen was employed as a Kindergarten teacher in Lawrenceville, Virginia for two years before returning to her hometown to accept a teaching position with the Milford School District. She spent the next 36 years encouraging the youngest of students to embrace education and have fun learning as a Kindergarten teacher at LuLu Ross Elementary School in Milford and then Morris Early Childhood Center in Lincoln before retiring.
She loved the warm summer months and spending time at the beach. Karen was a member of the Slaughter Neck United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed many church activities.
Karen is survived by her husband of 36 years, James H. Wilkerson, her son, Ty J. Wilkerson of Milford and his fiancAC. Brandi Ciamarra; her parents, George V. and Jeannette Carey of Milford; two brothers, Dale Carey and his wife Cindy and Denny Carey, all of Milford, her nephew, Blake Carey, and her niece, Kathryn Mastio.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Slaughter Neck United Methodist Church, 10266 Coastal Hwy, Milford.
Interment will be held privately following the service in the adjoining church cemetery.
Friends are invited to greet the family at a reception in the churches fellowship hall following the private interment.
