John Andrew Curtin II
Age 84, of Milford, passed away peacefully in his home, on October 27, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Jack, as friends called him, was born on June 13, 1928, in Brookline, MA, to the late John Curtis and Margaret Catherine (Murphy) Curtin.
Jack grew up in Boston and as a young boy during WWII; he supported his neighborhood during Air Raid practices as a messenger. The siren would sound and Jack would report to the neighborhood command center, wrap an identification band around his arm, grab a flashlight and deliver messages throughout his community as directed. He went on to enlist in the U.S. Army and served as part of Occupational Forces in Japan.
Following graduation from the Newton Prep School in Vermont, he attended Florida State University and majored in Hotel and Restaurant Administration.
He started his sales career in institutional foods with General Foods Corporation and eventually opened his own institutional food service brokerage, J.A. Curtin Brokerage.
Jack enjoyed skeet shooting, hiking, gardening, reading and particularly spontaneous conversation on his daily walks around Milford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Curtin; his son John Jeffrey Curtin and his wife, Kathy of Morgantown, West VA; his son, Michael Curtin of Ellicott City, MD; his son, Ron Curtin of Berlin, Germany; his daughter, Peg Curtin of Philadelphia, PA; and seven grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.
Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, 220 Continental Dr, Suite 101, Newark, DE, 19713.
