Joan Veronica Kerr-Higgins

MILFORD - Joan V. Kerr-Higgins passed away at home on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.  She was 65.

Joan was born on November 23, 1949 in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Michael and Violet Kinney Kerr.

She attended grade school at St. Columba and Incarnation parishes and graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School, all located in the Philadelphia area.

She was employed as a clerk for 34 years with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), retiring from her position in 2004.

Shortly after retirement, Joan and her husband Jim moved to Milford where she quickly made new friends and became involved in her community.  She loved living in the country and being close to the local beaches.  Joan was a volunteer at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital and was a member and past president of the Milford New Century Club.

Besides her love and devotion to her own family, Joan was also dedicated to her faith and her church family as an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford where she served in many capacities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice and Constance.

Joan is survived by her husband of 25 years, James J. Higgins; two sons, John P. Higgins and his companion Wendy Clough of Westmont, NJ, and James J. Higgins, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Marlton, NJ; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Higgins of East Norriton, PA; and six grandchildren; Michael Higgins and his wife Amanda Grace, Nicholas Higgins, Alexandra Higgins, Ryan Pietarinen, Savannah Pietarinen, and Grace Catherine Higgins.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave, Milford, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be held privately.
