Janet K. Brown

On September 17, 2024, Janet K. Brown, peacefully went home to be with the lord, Genie and Sue were by her side. She was 92.

Janet was born on May 14, 1932 in Claymont, DE to the late Davis and Sarah Merle Kimmey Roth.

She attended Harrington High School and graduated in 1950 with perfect attendance. She played multiple sports in High School and participated in the High School band. In her later years, she graduated from the Barbizon School of Modeling.

After Graduation, Janet was employed by Playtex in Dover, and in 1961 she began work as the Secretary for Frederica School #32. During her time the school consolidated with Lake Forest and the school was renamed Lake Forest East Elementary. She retired in 1991 after 30 years. She continued to work part time at the Lake Forest District office for several years. Janet was the Director of the Culinary Department at the Delaware State Fair for many years. Janet also volunteered with both the Milford Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and Milford Hospital Gift Shop.

Janet was a founding member and Charter President of the Frederica Spring Creek Lions Club, serving as Club Treasurer for over 25 years. She was very active in the club serving as a chairperson and serving on committees for many community service projects. Janet also served as 22D Cabinet Treasurer and on the Board of the Lions Vision Research Foundation and the Delaware Lions Foundation. She held leadership positions in this district and in multiple districts. Janet is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest recognition a Lion can receive, a Helm Fellow, McCarty Fellow, Reiver Fellow, and received several other recognitions and Certificates of Appreciation for her dedication of service. 

She was a member of Asbury Church in Harrington until she transferred membership to Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederica.

In her spare time, she enjoyed cross stitch, sewing, and needlework and word search with her great grand-daughter Brooklyn.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Sally Carnright and Sue Smith and her husband Genie, her grandchildren; Jeffrey Carnright and his wife Dafne, Brian Robbins and his wife Bonnie, Michael Robbins, Matthew Smith and his wife Morgan, and Ryan Smith and his wife Kim, her great grandchildren; Dylan Carnright, Parker Robbins, Ashley Robbins, Chloe Robbins, Brooklyn Smith, and Evan Smith, son in law, Jeff Robbins, and her good friend, BJ Ryder.

Janet was preceded in death by her daughter, Kim B. Robbins. Mother Merle Roth, Step Father, Dale J. Roth whom raised her, brothers Newlin and Neal Kimmey.

The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Bay Terrace Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Dover and the Staff of Accent Hospice Care of Newark for their care, compassion and comfort and support provided by them.

The family will receive visitors at Rogers Hovatter Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, from 10AM to 12PM on Tuesday 9/24, with a funeral service at 12 noon.

Interment is Hollywood Cemetery.
