James Marshall Divel

Of Selbyville, formerly of Milford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 19, 2011. He was 96.

He was born in Amaranth, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1914.

Mr. Divel served in the United States military for 27 years. He entered the US Army Air Corp in 1942, and then selected to serve in the US Air Force from where he retired in 1969. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #534 in Harrington since 1975. He had a life long love of playing cards. He frequently played his favorite game of pinochle at the Moose Lodges in Harrington and Camden, the Senior Centers in Harrington and Dover and with family and friends. Mr. Divel won several local championships. He also loved hunting, fishing and tinkering with engines with family and friends in PA, DE and MD.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lois E. Divel.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Anita E. Eastman; his loving son, Glen Marshall Divel and wife Karen; his grandchildren; Christine C. daCosta and husband George, Paul Marshall Divel and Christopher Glen Divel; his great-grandson, Matthew James Chapin daCosta; his sister, Lena Belle Berkstresser and husband Donald and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

The interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963.
