Herman O. Kopf
Of Milford, Delaware, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 95.
Mr. Kopf was born on February 5, 1915 in Oneonta, New York, son of the late Harry N., Sr. and Maude (Simmons) Kopf.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during World War II.
Herman was a theatre manager most of his life overseeing productions in Milford, Laurel and Washington, DC. During his time in Washington, he met with President John Kennedy and his brother Robert Kennedy on the topic of segregation in the theatre. He retired from his profession in 1978.
After retirement he volunteered his time as a crossing guard for Lulu Ross Elementary School in Milford and was also involved as a member of the Milford Rotary Club and the American Legion Post #3.
He was a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, actively participating in the Methodist Men for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Kopf in 2004; a sister, Minnie Ivelia and a grandson, Stephen Jester.
He is survived by two daughters, Penny Chippmen of Berwyn Heights, MD and Diane Gehlert of Milford; a sister, Gladys MacRitchie of Kent, Connecticut; six grandchildren; Jeff Chippmen, Trish Conte, Lisa Sweeney, Holly Maloney, David Chippmen and Penny Gillespie and ten great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.
Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to World Vision, P.O. Box 9716, Federal Way, WA, 98063-9716.
