Gary L. Brown
HARRINGTON - Gary L. Brown passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 73.
Gary was born in Milford on November 28, 1941, son of the late Alvin O. and Anna Belle (Gary) Brown.
He was first employed with DuPont in Seaford for several years before becoming an officer with the Milford Police Department and later with the Felton and Houston Departments. Gary left law enforcement to help with his father's farming operation in Harrington while also holding down jobs at separate times as a driver with Wilson Beverage in Milford and Milford Fertilizer. He later accepted a position with Carl King in Camden from where he retired in 2002. As an experienced mechanic, Gary also owned and operated his own small engine repair business over the years which he continued after retirement.
Gary was a life time member of the Carlisle Fire Company joining on October 21, 1963. He held numerous positions during his tenure with the company including Chief Engineer, Building Supervisor, Director #3, Board of Directors, and was one of the first of the volunteer crew on the Ambulance Squad. Gary was also the first fireman to be elected by his peers for the distinguished Fireman of the Year Award in 1967. He was presented in 2013 with his 50 year service award.
He enjoyed many memorable hunting trips with dear friends for turkey and deer in Pennsylvania and most recently loved spending time with his fiancée and their combined families at their vacation home in Long Neck.
Gary is survived by his son, Kenneth Brown of Harrington; his daughter, Carol Mitchell of Hartford, Wisconsin; his fiancée of five years, Diana Vincent of Houston; his sister, Karen Kornfield of Harrington; four grandchildren, Steven Millman, Tyler Walls, Erin Brown, and Christopher Brown; and a great granddaughter, Alyssa Millman.
