Franklin VanHorn
MILFORD - Franklin VanHorn passed away at his home on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was 93.
Frank was born in Philadelphia on April 6, 1920.
After graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University, he joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II.
Mr. VanHorn was employed with DuPont in Wilmington retiring from his position after 30 years with the company.
During his retirement, he spent three years as a full time volunteer traveling for American Baptist Churches USA.
He was a devoted member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, and in 2012 was awarded a special recognition as a Lay Laureate for his many years as a Sunday school teacher.
Mr. VanHorn was preceded in death by a brother, Norman VanHorn, and a sister, Mary Alice Broomall.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anita VanHorn, a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Martin and Rev. Sharon VanHorn of Louisville, KY; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Thomas Parkins of Newark; a sister, Virginia Klinger of Sebastian, FL; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
A service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014 in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, with interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Life Connections International Inc, 657 South Hurstbourne Pkwy, Suite 259, Louisville, KY, 40222.
