On August 15, 2021, Ervin “Bob” Dilly peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family at Bayhealth Hospital in Milford.
He was born on October 20, 1936, in Fredericka, Iowa to the late Frank and Olga Dilly.
Bob honorably served our country in the Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class after 21 years of service. He received the Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Korean Presidential Unit Citation and many other awards. Upon retiring, he continued to service our country by working for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) as a bus driver taking veterans to their doctors’ appointments and to the hospital.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 in Dover and The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He also enjoyed volunteering in his community delivering meals every Thanksgiving to those in need.
Bob loved being outside with his fish and watching his favorite bird, the Purple Martin. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and riding motorcycles with his family. He was a proud and giving man to all those he came in contact with including family, friends and neighbors.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Theresa Dilly and is survived by their son, Robert Dilly. He was also preceded in death by his longtime companion of 25 years, Evelyn Dobbins, and survived by their children, Daniel Brown and his wife Cathy, Terry Faverau, Thomas Armstrong, Linda “Michelle” Armstrong and her husband John Henry, Karen Pollard and Deanna Hurd, twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and his sister Mardel Vallerian and his beloved dog “Little Bit”.
He will truly be missed by all and will join those above.
