Dr. Gregory J. Barone

On January 4, 2025, while surrounded by his loved ones, Dr. Gregory J. Barone peacefully went home to be with the Lord. He was 86.

Dr. Barone was born on November 19, 1938 in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Sylvester and Mary Barone. 

He graduated from Bishop Fallon Catholic School and then received a BS in General Physics from Canisius College in Buffalo N.Y. Dr. Barone then received a MS in Health Physics from the University of Rochester and a PhD in Radiological Physics from Oregon State University.

Dr. Barone honorably served our country in the Public Health Service for 20 years before starting a career in the private sector working as a VP for Siemens Medical Systems and the president and CEO of Siemens Gammasonics Inc. In 1994 Dr. Barone and his wife moved to Milford when he became the VP and general manager of Dentsply until he retired in 1997.

Dr. Barone was a member of St. John’s the Apostle Catholic Church. He served his community in many ways including volunteering for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and at the church’s food pantry.

He was an avid tennis player, and enjoyed sailing, and owning standardbred racehorses; but mostly he loved spending time with his family. 

Dr. Barone is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce, his 5 children, Greg (Tami), Linda Zilli (Larry), Sharon Mayer (Gerard), Gary (Petra), and Lisa Clements (Scott), 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his beloved dog Nellie. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John’s the Apostle, 506 Seabury Ave., Milford, at 10:30AM on Monday, January 13th. 

Interment is Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro at a later date.
