Dorothy D. Lewis
Of Milford, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 101.
Dorothy was born on March 22, 1911 near Gumboro, daughter of the late Ira and Hannah (Smith) Donaway.
She was a graduate of Pittsville High School and Salisbury University, Class of 1929.
She began her teaching career in Maryland and retired in 1975, after 32 years in her profession, as a second grade teacher with the Caesar Rodney School District.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Delaware Retired School Personnel Association and a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, joining in 1953.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Lewis in 1994.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law; Colonel (USAF, Ret.) Joseph W. and Trish Lewis of Tacoma, WA; I. Ted Lewis of Rehoboth Beach and Ken R. and Sue Lewis of Felton; four grandchildren; Steven Lewis of Port Orchard, WA; Matthew Lewis of Ridgefield, WA; Michael Lewis of Dover and Amy Lewis of Knoxville TN; and a great-grandchild, Delya Lewis.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial will follow in the Redman Cemetery in Selbyville.
