"Dot"
Of Milford, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 in Milford Center. She was 97.
Dot was born on May 30, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Ernest and Carrie (Mayhew) Johnson.
As a youth, she was a performer in the vaudeville theater circuits of producer Benjamin Franklin Keith. Dot also studied music in Philadelphia for many years and played piano with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
After her marriage to Roy Edwards, an engineer, his occupation found them relocating many times, living briefly in many states and finally settling in Delaware.
In 1950, Dot, along with her sister, Sara, opened a clothing store, the Bonnie Louise Shoppe in Rehoboth Beach. She later returned to being a full time homemaker.
She had served as a member of the Sussex County Advisory Board of the Visiting Nurses Association of Delaware, was a member of the Milford Senior Center, the AARP and in the 1980's participated in leadership with the Community Bible Study in Milford.
Dot was a long time devoted member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford where she was active with the United Methodist Women and a member of the Sarah Circle. She was also involved with the churches prayer group and had served as a lay member to the conference. In 1963, she was awarded the Woman's Society of Christian Service Life Membership Pin in recognition of her service to society and the church at large.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Edwards in 1984.
She is survived by a niece, Elizabeth Jane Aldridge of Chesapeake, VA and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford.
Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Lions Children's Eye Care Foundation, P.O. Box 25, Milford, DE, 19963.
