Carolyn S. Pendleton
"Mom-Mom"
Of Milford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 90.
Carolyn was born on May 22, 1921 in Greenwood, daughter of the late Frank and Emma Edgell Wroten.
She grew up on a farm outside of Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1939. Carolyn met her future husband, Jack E. Pendleton, of Lancaster, PA, at the Delaware State Fair. They were married on July 31, 1941 and resided in Milford their entire lives. On September 11, 1946, she gave birth to their only child Jacalyn G. Pendleton.
Carolyn was a self-employed beautician for 42 years.
She and her husband were season ticket holders from 1964 until 2010 for the football games at the University of Delaware, from where their daughter graduated in 1968.
Mrs. Pendleton played basketball for several years for a local community team and was a member of a bowling team with the Milford Bowling League for many years. She was also a long time member, along with her husband Jack, of the Shawnee Country Club in Milford, enjoying the activities and social events offered there. Carolyn was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Milford.
More than anything else, she loved her family and friends deeply and spent many evenings enjoying outdoor activities with them. Carolyn also enjoyed her annual trips to N.Y.C. for New Years Eve with friends to listen to the music of Guy Lombardo's Orchestra. She had a passion for cooking and baking especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas and throughout the year would pleasantly surprise her friends, family and doctors with one of her homemade cakes or pies.
The many blessings of her life will long be remembered by her family and friends who loved her dearly.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pendleton was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" E. Pendleton and two sisters; Hilda Massey and Eleanor Tatman.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Jackie and Mike Griffin of Felton; two grandsons, Brian K. James and his wife Lisa and Scott L. James and his friend Lauren Ellis and three step-grandchildren; Ryan, Shawn and Kenniss Wright.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call after 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 172, Milford, DE, 19963.
