Bobbie Lawson Jacobs
Age 78 of Milford, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, with her family by her side.
Born Bobbie Jean Lawson on March 3, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lola (Bartley) Lawson. She graduated from Pasqual High School in Fort Worth, in 1950. She worked at Zales Jewelry Store in Fort Worth before becoming a homemaker and mother of two sons.
After her move to the Milford area, she became a business woman, part owner of the Milford Bus Center and Mr. Donut/Donut Connection. Forrest and Bobbie owned the Milford Bus Center for 17 years, and Mr. Donut/Donut Connection for 25 years. She was married to Forrest V. "Spook" Jacobs for 55 years.
Before settling down in Milford, she traveled around the country and to Cuba with her husband, Forrest, who was a Professional Baseball player for the Philadelphia Athletics, Kansas City Athletics, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. As fate would have it, they meet when Forrest hit Bobbie with a foul ball at a game in Fort Worth. They married a year and a half later on January 9, 1955. She supported her husband during his years playing ball, living out of a station wagon for 5 years from 1955 through 1960, when Forrest became a manager of the Chattanooga Lookouts. They spent two years in Hollywood when Forrest was playing in the Pacific Coast League and enjoyed "hobnobbing" with the stars.
Mrs. Jacobs was a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford.
In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved son Thomas Lawson Jacobs in 1999 and her loving sister, Mary E. Brackeen of Auburn, California.
A devoted wife and mother, Bobbie is survived by her husband, Forrest V. "Spook" Jacobs; her son, Robert F. Jacobs of Milford; her granddaughter, Ashley Monique Jacobs of El Paso, TX and great grandson, Thomas Vincent Jacobs Wesley of El Paso; her sister, Shirley Orren of Abilene, TX, three nephews; Michael and his wife Loree Orren of Lincoln, CA, Scott and his wife Audrey Orren of San Diego, CA; and Randy and his wife Carol Brackeen of Belmont, CA; one niece, Julie Orren of Sachse, TX; and her uncles; T.D. Bartley of Marshall, TX and Newt Bartley of Belvedere, CA.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford.
Burial will be held in the Milford Community Cemetery.
