Milford – On September 25, 2021, Beulah A. Sockrider, peacefully went home to be with the Lord.
She was born on May 17, 1923 in Milford to the late Samuel and Mabel Armour.
Beulah graduated from Milford High School in 1941 before graduating from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics in 1945.
Mrs. Sockrider worked as a Home Economics Teacher at Lewes High School, Milton High School, and finally Milton Middle School.
Beulah was very active in her community and belonged to the Houston United Methodist Church, the Williamsville Methodist Church, Houston Cardinals 4H Club, the Delaware State Grange, A.A.U.W., Milford Marching Bucs Band Boosters, Milford High School Alumni Association, Milford Historical Society, Friends of the Milford Museum, and was President of the Milford Century Club and President of the Houston United Methodist Church Women’s Society. She volunteered in many capacities at the Milford Memorial Hospital. She was also a judge for preserves, baked goods, and cooking contests at the Delaware State Fair.
Mrs. Sockrider was an excellent cook and seamstress. She also did beautiful embroidery, knitting, smocking, and quilting. She enjoyed puzzles, travel, and most of all, spending time with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Major William Sockrider, her sister, Elizabeth Carter, and her brother, Samuel Armour.
Beulah is survived by her daughter, Barbara Johnson and her husband James, her grandson, Kyle Johnson and his wife Ashley, her granddaughter, Emily Green and her husband Michael, and her great grandchildren, Avery Johnson, Quinn Johnson, and Charlotte Green.
The family will receive visitors at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, from 10AM to 12PM on Thursday 9/30, with a funeral service at 12 noon.
Interment is Milford Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to the Houston United Methodist Church P.O. Box 43 Houston Delaware 19954.
