On December 9, 2022, Audie M. Wilkins, 94, peacefully passed away at her home in Milford.
She was born in Milford on July 24, 1928 to the late Hubbard and Ethel Macklin.
Audie graduated from Milton High School in 1946 as valedictorian of her class.
She worked as a bookkeeper for I.G. Burton and then later for the State of Delaware as a clerk in Legislative Hall.
Audie was a member and past president of the Milford Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Hospital fair chairman as well as past president of the Century Club.
She enjoyed playing bridge even as recently as November of this year at the Senior Center.
She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church serving in many ministries as well as the choir and the women’s association.
Audie hosted many gatherings and crab feasts at their cottage on Slaughter Beach.
She was a fantastic cook and loved making beach plum jelly and beach plum wine. It was a popular raffle item for the hospital fair and sold many tickets.
Audie was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Lyons Wilkins.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia French and her husband Alvin, and Susan Wilkins and her partner Cheryl Normandeau, her grandchildren, Matthew French and his wife Cari, Todd French and his wife Lauren, Jennifer Costello and her husband Rory, and Kelly Turner and her husband Billy, her great grandchildren, Jacob, Aidan, Dylan, Kaila, Reece, Teddy, and Penny French, and Cody, Jaxson, Zoey, and Bryce Turner and her brothers, Hubbard Macklin, Jr., and Charles Macklin and his wife Joyce and her dear niece, Carla Wilkins as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Along with her live in caretaker, Joann McCarthy, Audie was blessed with exceptional caregivers, especially Wende Davis, who devoted much of her time for the last three years. The family could not be more grateful for their love and care of our mother and grandmother.
The family would also like to thank her many doctors and the hospice caregivers.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Milford, 101 S. Walnut St. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11am with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Gathering of family and friends starts at 10am.
