Albert W. "Buzz" Adams, Jr.

MILFORD - Albert W. Adams, Jr., life time Sussex County waterman and captain, and great teacher of all, left this earth to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2014. He was 74.

He was born in Milford on December 21, 1939, son of the late Maj. Gen. Albert White Adams and Christine Powell Adams.

Buzz graduated with the Class of 1958 from John M. Clayton High School in Dagsboro and furthered his education at Shepherd College in West Virginia, where he graduated in 1963 with a BA in Secondary Education. He also served in the Delaware National Guard.

He taught high school at separate times with the Georgetown, Milford and Cape Henlopen School Districts before leaving to pursue his passion for fishing. Buzz founded Adam's Wharf of Cedar Beach and ran charter and head boat operations from that location until moving to North Indian River Inlet to run the Judy V and later the Capt. Bob II, semi-retiring in 2007 to enjoy his garden and his church.

He was a champion bridge player and very proud of his involvement as President of Save Our Shores where he was instrumental in lobbying against a proposed super port in the Delaware Bay in 1970 and in saving Delaware dunes at Fort Miles State Park.

Buzz was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Milford and gave of his time willingly to help out with many church and community activities.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J. Michael Adams.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Hudson Adams, their two over loved children, Julie A. Wagner and her husband Fred W. Wagner, III, and Albert W. "Bert" Adams, III and his wife Deanna Aptt Adams; his four beautiful grandchildren, Kristin E. Wagner, Brittany L. Adams, Lauren J. Adams and Christopher W. Adams, who lovingly referred to him as Op'pop, all of whom lived surrounding him in Cedar Beach; six brothers, Col. James P. Adams, ret. of Charleston, SC; David C. Adams and his wife Kenna M. of Harrington; Dr. Jefferson A. Adams and his wife Carol H. of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; William C. Adams and his wife Patti of Dagsboro; Dr. Daniel N. Adams and his wife Patricia of Raleigh, NC; and Arthur C. "Spike" Adams and his wife Susie of Frederica; a sister, Catherine Tillman and her husband Jeff of Kissimmee, FL; 26 nieces and nephews, 22 great nieces and nephews, and his accumulated extended family made up of many dear people that worked with him on the boats over the years.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Walnut St, Milford.

Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 759, Georgetown, DE, 19947.
