Lee Beetschen

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lee Beetschen shares news of his passing on February 17th, 2023 at the age of 84.
Although he was not a native of Delaware, having moved to Milford in the 1950s with his parents and sister from Pennsylvania, he dedicated much of his working career to the betterment of the state. He co-founded CABE Associates in 1976, an environmental engineering firm that partnered with many businesses and policymakers.  His time spent working there alongside the employees and clients were some of his proudest memories, out of which he formed many lasting friendships.  He also participated in numerous local councils and societies and willingly offered his insight to support them.
While it might seem in contrast to the considerable influence, he made with both his connections and dedication to numerous projects, Lee was ultimately very fond of quiet and privacy. He enjoyed gardening, photography, and most of all relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine. In fact, he’d often have multiple books strategically placed throughout the house or outside on a sunny day.
After his retirement, Lee created his own stories under the pen name of Morgan C. Lee. Out of several publications, his books included, “The Kings Con,” a mystery drawing in many elements of his favorite genre, “Delmarva Remembered,” a collection of stories dedicated to the region, and the somewhat more autobiographical, “Mules, Pools and Red Eyed Gravy” a story that follows the life of a child stricken by polio. The description of the book shares, “The young boy had lain flat on his back, bedridden and paralyzed as war clouds loomed nearby. He musters every ounce of strength and courage to forge ahead on an epic journey to get himself back in the game of life.” A survivor of polio and other hardships, this line and the spirit of the story are reminiscent of the path Lee carved for himself.
With an unmistakable sense of humor, vast depth of intelligence, and a quiet, but caring heart, anyone who encountered him would without a doubt come away with a memorable story.  Both family and friends alike would agree that you could not help but remember any time spent with him.
He is survived by three children – Fonda, Shawn and Kathleen – as well as two stepsons, John and William (Joe), with whom he remained very close, along with his former wife, Patricia. His daughter-in-law Liz was regarded very much like his own daughter as well. His legacy is also carried by many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family, including his cousin Norma and her husband Terry Holloway, whose company and Sunday dinners he cherished deeply.
